Ubisoft, the video game developer behind Assassin’s Creed, Brawlhalla, Far Cry and other popular games, is stepping into web3 gaming with its first launch on the Oasys blockchain.
On October 10, Ubisoft announced that its tactical role-playing game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles will be released on HOME Verse, a gaming hub on gaming-optimized blockchain Oasys’ Ethereum (ETH) layer-2 network.
According to Ubisoft’s statement via X, the turn-based game is expected to be released on October 23, 2024.
As part of the collaboration with Ubisoft, Oasys will provide full optimization of the game’s blockchain elements, the companies said.
Ubisoft’s new web3 game
Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is a tactical RPG that brings player-versus-player battles set in the mystical Grimoria. It contains 75,000 digital collectibles known as Champions, which are main characters that have unique characteristics and allow PvP battles.
The game’s launch this month comes almost a year after Ubisoft announced plans for its web3 gaming initiative.
Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab aims to improve gameplay in the rapidly expanding web3 space with the Champions Tactics game and other important games.
According to the video game developer, the goal is to unlock new possibilities and opportunities for players.
“With Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, we’re bringing a true gaming experience to Web3. This isn’t GameFi; It’s about pure, immersive gameplay that draws players into the game while giving them the freedom to own their own existence and shape the future of gaming,” said Sylvain Loe-Mie, executive producer of Champions Tactics.
Oasys’ partnership with Ubisoft in the new game adds to the blockchain platform’s growing presence in the crypto gaming industry. Besides Ubisoft, Oasys also counts top gaming and web3 providers SEGA and Yield Guild Games among its proof-of-stake network validators.
