The Gambaryans’ family spokesman stated in his statement that Binance manager Tigran Gambaryan was refused bail.
Gambaryan, the crypto exchange’s head of fighting financial crimes, has been detained in Nigeria since February. The manager has been in Kuje prison along with figures such as terrorist organization Boko Haram since Binance employee Nadeem Anjarwalla escaped from custody in March.
Although the false charges against Gambaryan, who was also accused of tax evasion and money laundering, were dropped, the court kept postponing the decision to release Gambaryan on bail.
Gambaryan’s lawyers applied for a new bail, citing his deteriorating health condition. As reported in the Bloomberg report, one of the lawyers, Mark Mordi, told the court last month that the executive had needed surgery since July 18 and required emergency assistance that cannot currently be provided in prison.
Suffering from malaria, pneumonia and tonsillitis during his time in prison, Gambaryan’s condition worsened to the point that he had to use a wheelchair due to complications from his back condition. The manager, who was not given a wheelchair at the last hearing, had to attend the hearing with a single crutch.
Tigran’s wife, Yuki Gamabryan, said: “It is nothing short of unfair to deprive someone in Tigran’s situation of the opportunity to receive proper medical care, and I pray that the damage he suffers when he is released will not be permanent.” “I am tired and frustrated, and I will continue to fight for my wife’s rightful freedom.”
