Solana’s Polymarket to allow betting on Pump.science tests

Pump.science and Hedgehog Markets have teamed up to promote decentralized science-focused staking contracts as the DeSci sector gains traction.

Pump.science and Hedgehog Markets will allow bettors to speculate on laboratory mice being subjected to experiments aimed at extending human lifespan, it was announced on January 8.

Pump.science is a blockchain research project focused on disrupting traditional academia by funding scientific initiatives and launching tokenized protocols. The project is supported by the Solana Foundation, which supports innovative initiatives in the blockchain field.

A blog post from Pump.science revealed that Hedgehog Markets users can bet on mice each week, placing bets on how long each rodent can stay on a rotating bar. Endurance tests will be carried out over two months, with each mouse given a unique name.

Every week, the mice are treated with potential life-extending compounds and subjected to endurance tests. Participants can access video footage of individual mice, preliminary data, and information from past experiments to inform their predictions about which mouse will stay on the rotarod the longest.

Benji Leibowitz, founder of Pump.science, stated that livestreams of mouse lifespan tests will offer “a new and more engaging model of participation in scientific discovery” through Hedgehog Markets.

Hedgehog Markets offers betting contracts to predict real-world events such as politics, sports, and crypto prices, similar to Polygon-based Polymarket.

Pump.science is a project valued at over $2 billion tied to the growing DeSci industry. Teams like BIO Protocol boast support from Binance; Leaders like Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin, and Maelstrom boss Arthur Hayes are backing DeSci as a key crypto narrative in 2025.
