China urges US to withdraw decision to sell arms to Taiwan

China has called on the United States to reverse its decision to sell arms to China’s Taiwanese region and stop arming Taiwan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian evaluated the US approval of the sale of arms and equipment to Taiwan at the press conference held today.

Spokesperson Lin emphasized that the US’s sale of weapons to China’s Taiwan region, ignoring China’s important initiatives and objections, is significantly contrary to the One China element and the 3 joint declarations between China and the US.

Pointing out that the US initiative violates China’s sovereignty and security interests, the spokesperson used the following expressions:

“US arms sales to the Taiwan region seriously harm Sino-US relations, harm peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and give false statements to separatist forces pro-Taiwan independence. “We condemn this attempt in the strongest terms and oppose it with determination.”

Pointing out that the Taiwan issue is at the core of China’s basic interests, the spokesman underlined that this is a red line that will not be allowed to be crossed in China-US relations.

Calling on the United States to withdraw its decision to sell arms to the Taiwan region, the spokesman emphasized that China will take decisive measures to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

In the statement made by the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) of the US Department of Defense, it was stated that the US State Department approved the sale of weapons and equipment to Taiwan with a total price of approximately 360 million dollars.
