Interpol targets Hong Kong crypto promoter with red notice over $384k fraud

Interpol has issued a red notice requesting the arrest of a Hong Kong cryptocurrency promoter over an alleged $384,000 crypto scam.

Interpol has issued a red notice for Hong Kong cryptocurrency promoter Wong Ching-kit, known as “Coin Young Master,” who is wanted on two counts of fraud and theft in connection with a HK$3 million (approximately $384,000) scam case.

While Interpol did not provide details on why the red notice was issued, a source familiar with the matter told the South China Morning Post that Wong was linked to several investigations by Hong Kong’s commercial crime bureau, including a major crypto scam.

Wong has long been known in the local crypto community, at least since he was accused of defrauding investors through a crypto mining hardware scheme associated with a token called “Filecoin” in early 2019. It is unclear whether this project is somehow related to the legitimate Filecoin network founded by Juan Benet. Wong’s whereabouts were unknown as of press time.

Interpol’s red notice is a global alert for law enforcement to locate and temporarily detain individuals awaiting extradition, surrender or similar legal action. The notice contains identifying and judicial information about the individual and assists authorities in their efforts to apprehend fugitives.

In September 2022, Interpol also issued a red notice for Do Kwon, the South Korean co-founder of Terraform Labs. Kwon was arrested at Podgorica airport in March 2023 while trying to travel to Dubai with a fake passport.
