Status partners with Linea to launch layer-2 rollup solution

Decentralized messaging platform Status and zero-knowledge layer-2 blockchain Linea are collaborating to develop a new aggregation solution called Status Network.

Status, an Ethereum (ETH)-based platform that raised $100 million in its initial coin offering in 2017, announced the partnership on August 20. The new platform aims to leverage the layer-2 technology of Linea, the Consensys-backed zkEVM protocol. As part of this agreement, Status will be the first to contribute to Linea’s open source code.

What is Status Network?

According to Status, its new layer-2 aggregation solution, Status Network, aims to provide an infrastructure that integrates the messaging platform’s mobile and desktop applications. L2 will also connect to the Ethereum ecosystem and support SocialFi and GameFi.

The platform will also provide an environment for governance experiments and integrate the Status voting system, among other features.

Cyprien Grau, a core contributor to Status, said that the “ultimate goal is to scale Ethereum horizontally.” According to Grau, the partnership and launch of the L2 Status Network will increase interoperability and help Ethereum scale as a leading layer-1 network.

This collaboration will also strengthen Linea’s ecosystem, particularly by further advancing Linea’s decentralization.

“Our collaboration with Status is a natural fit given their significant contributions to Ethereum’s core operations and their strong focus on the consumer through the Status app,” said Nicolas Liochon, global leader at Linea.

Operating Status Network together with Linea is expected to open up new opportunities for users in the Status ecosystem, further expanding the platform’s capabilities and reach.
