Donald Trump unveils his own currency, but it’s not what you think

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced a new currency to raise cash for his campaign.

Dubbed the “President Trump First Edition Silver Medallion,” the project aims to give silver to Americans who support the Republican presidential nominee. However, crypto users are still hoping that Trump will launch an official crypto asset for his election push.

Trump will launch a new currency

The presidential candidate noted in a recent announcement that the incoming coins will be sold for $100 per unit through the website RealTrumpCoins.com. He explained that the digital asset is minted with 99.9% fine silver. The “limited edition” coin features Trump’s face on one side and the White House with the words “In God We Trust” on the other.

With the long-awaited US presidential election just weeks away, Trump is actively exploring various ways to raise cash to fund his campaigns. The soon-to-be-released silver coins will be his latest effort to raise funds for his electoral movement.

Trump emphasized that the silver-based asset is the “ONLY OFFICIAL currency” he designed and spearheaded its minting in the US.

Where Crypto?

Over the past few months, multiple meme coins themed around Trump have been launched. Still, he refuted ties to these tokens while introducing his silver-themed coins. He stated:

I’ve seen a lot of coins out there using my pretty face. (. . .) But they are not the official currency. Realtrumpcoin.com is the only place to get official Trump coin.

At first glance, Trump’s latest announcement of a new official currency may seem like he’s finally launching a crypto asset. For months, his fans have been anticipating an official cryptocurrency from the political figure. Last week, 84% of Polymarket punters expected a Trump coin following the launch of a crypto project called World Liberty Financial.

Although Trump’s WorldLiverty Financial was accompanied by a government token called WLFI, the digital asset lacked most of the characteristics of a cryptocurrency.
