Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao may be released two days before his scheduled release date of September 29 (Sunday).
According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons rule, “The Bureau of Prisons shall not hold an inmate whose release date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday unless another jurisdiction requesting the detainee’s custody is required or for any other reason that may indicate that the inmate should not be released until the scheduled release date.” “Unless the release of the prisoner is necessary for some reason, the prisoner may be released on the last day of the week.”
However, the decision depends on the discretion given to Prison Governors.
CZ was sentenced to four months in prison in April after being found guilty of violating the Bank Secrecy Act by failing to provide required know-your-customer (KYC) services at Binance.
If he is released today, he will have served 116 days in prison.
Binance spokesperson: “We are very happy that CZ will finally come home and be with his family. Even though he won’t be running Binance, we’re excited to see what he does next. “Binance continues to evolve since last year and has surpassed 230 million users worldwide.”
