Bitcoin miner Canaan rolls out mining rigs as home heaters at CES 2025

Bitcoin miner manufacturer Canaan introduced the Avalon Mini 3 and Nano 3S platforms, which can be used as a home heater while mining crypto.

Canaan, a technology company known for ASIC chip design and development, is taking another step at something other mining companies have tried: making Bitcoin (BTC) mining rigs that double as heaters.

Canaan announced two new Bitcoin mining devices at CES in Las Vegas: Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S. The rigs are designed to make crypto mining more accessible and help turn home heating into a byproduct of mining, the company said in a press release on January 8.

The Avalon Mini 3 has a hash rate of 37.5Th/s and is designed to provide heat to a home while mining Bitcoin. Canaan claims the device has a “quiet design” as well as being “an energy-efficient solution for mining beginners and enthusiasts.”

Avalon Nano 3S with 6Th/s hashrate is an upgraded, more affordable version aimed at beginners. The company says that it is small and portable, making it suitable for those who want to start mining without a large setup.

Canaan founder NG Zhang said the main goal of the latest devices is to make Bitcoin mining “accessible to everyone,” adding that the company is trying to reimagine “how technology can create value while minimizing environmental waste.” Canaan is offering a pre-order deal until the end of February. The price of Avalon Nano 3S is 249 dollars, while the price of Avalon Mini 3 is limited to stocks.

This isn’t the first time mining hardware companies have tried to turn crypto platforms into home devices. Companies like Heatbit and D-Central have also introduced heaters that mine cryptocurrency. While the concept is intriguing, these devices appear to have not gained much traction due to high costs, noise, and volatility in the crypto market, keeping them in a niche market for now.
