The Aptos Foundation announced that Circle’s USDC stablecoin and Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol will launch on the Aptos blockchain.
Alongside this launch, Stripe is also adding Aptos (APT) support to its crypto payment products, in a move aimed at streamlining payments and increasing decentralized finance on the network, according to a press release shared with Crypto.news.
USDC (USDC), a dollar-backed stablecoin controlled by Circle, has circulation of over $37 billion. According to the statement, $160 million worth of bridged USDC is currently operating on Aptos, making it the most used stablecoin on the network.
The upcoming integration will enable native USDC to be issued on Aptos directly by Circle’s regulated entities, eliminating the reliance on hyperlinked versions. Developers will also gain access to CCTP, which enables cross-chain transfers between Aptos and other blockchains such as Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Arbitrum (ARB).
Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol will allow applications on Aptos to seamlessly send USDC to other blockchains such as Ethereum, Solana, and Base. This improves interoperability, making it easier for users to move their digital assets across networks.
Aptos and Ribbon
Stripe’s integration will allow Aptos wallets to convert fiat currencies such as dollars to USDC (or vice versa). For merchants, this creates an easier way to accept or send payments using stablecoins. The system helps businesses process transactions more efficiently by connecting traditional finance to blockchain.
To manage the transition, Aptos will rename bridged USDC to “lzUSDC” and work with applications and bridge providers like LayerZero to shift liquidity to the native version. Developers and users can continue to use existing bridged USDC until the transition is complete.
The launch of CCTP on Aptos also supports DeFi, where users interact with financial products such as lending or trading without traditional intermediaries. The protocol will enable more seamless cross-chain transactions by supporting use cases such as token swaps or fund management across multiple networks.
“Adding support for the Aptos blockchain within our crypto products expands consumer and merchant access to more efficient global funds flows with stablecoins; “Whether it’s a retailer accepting payments from around the world or a platform that pays creators wherever they are.”
