Crypto.com sponsors first golf tournament with crypto prize

Crypto.com has been announced as the title sponsor of the upcoming Crypto.com Showdown, a professional golf tournament featuring a prize purse paid entirely with cryptocurrency.

PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will compete against LIV Golf players Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka at the event, scheduled for December 17 in Las Vegas, according to a press release shared with Crypto.news.

The tournament will award a multimillion-dollar prize in CRO (CRO), Crypto.com’s native token. This marks the first instance of a major sports competition offering a prize purse entirely in cryptocurrency.

Crypto.com CEO Kris Marzalek stated that the sponsorship reflects the company’s mission to embrace global cryptocurrency.

“This tournament demonstrates the potential of cryptocurrency to reshape the sports and entertainment industries,” Marzalek said.

The event is organized by BZ Entertainment and EverWonder Studio, known for creating innovative sports and entertainment experiences. Producers Bryan Zuriff and Ian Orefice have highlighted Showdown’s aim to “unite and renew” professional golf while presenting high stakes for players and fans alike.
