While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken put pressure on both sides to accept the agreement, it was reported that Hamas wanted some changes to be made in the offer.
While Blinken announced that he was “evaluating” Hamas’s official response to the ceasefire proposal in Gaza, he is trying to turn the global support for the UN Security Council’s decision supporting the proposal into pressure on the Palestinian militant group and Israel.
Late Tuesday, a Hamas official said they had submitted a response to Egyptian and Qatari mediators demanding some “changes” and that their priority was to “completely stop” the war. Jihad Taha, a Hamas spokesman, said the response included “amendments confirming the ceasefire, withdrawal, reconstruction and prisoner exchange.”
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters Tuesday night that Washington had received the response and was “currently evaluating it,” but declined to give details of its content.
