According to the Associated Press report on Monday, Telegram based crypto game Hamster Kombat has seen increased interest in Iran; local users are flocking to the easy tap-to-win game ahead of the upcoming token launch.
The developers of Hamster Kombat announced on Monday that the game has now attracted a total of 200 million players, representing a fairly large share of the reported 900 million total Telegram users. This development is up from the 150 million total players claimed on June 14.

Hamster Kombat has also seen huge growth on YouTube and Twitter, and on Monday AP ‘Similar reports from . support that the game is experiencing a big boom.
However, it seems that this does not sit well with the Iranian government. While players in the country tap their phones in hopes of winning crypto rewards, Iranians struggle with high inflation, few jobs and Western sanctions, which members of the government see as too much Western influence.
Rear Admiral Habibullah Sayyari, Iran’s deputy chief of staff, told the state-run IRNA news agency: “One of the characteristics of the enemy’s soft war is the ‘Hamster’ game.” The AP added that Sayyari claimed that Western powers were trying to divert Iranians’ attention from the presidential elections, so that they “did not pay attention to the plans of the presidential candidates.”
Iran will elect a new president this Friday, following the death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May. JameJam, a state-run daily newspaper, also criticized the interest in Hamster Kombat, writing that it promoted “the dream of becoming powerful overnight and gaining wealth without effort.”
