Iggy Azalea disses ETH creator Vitalik Buterin, TOKEN2049

Rapper Iggy Azalea has belittled Singapore’s TOKEN2049 attendees and Vitalik Buterin, describing numerous panel discussions and singing appearances by the Ethereum co-founder as “losers.”

The “Fancy” singer responded to critics on social media on Saturday, writing, “I’m not okay with watching you guys sing and croon about crypto or other losers on conference stages. I’d be embarrassed to share that.”

See below.

I am trying to become a Crypto HR department
A room full of people worth hundreds of millions of dollars coming together at a party over a donkey meme creates crazy hateful vibes.

If you knew who was in that building last night, you would cry.
All you see is KOL footage. A little degeneracy chaos is being broadcast…

Although Azalea didn’t mention Buterin’s name, it was clear who she was referring to.

Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), took the stage at TOKEN2049 and sang a song about the cryptocurrency. Tron founder Justin Sun tweeted a video of his performance, stating that it “took a lot of courage.”

Azalea wins support

Azalea has come under fire from some members of the crypto community after videos and photos from her crypto-themed event in Las Vegas were posted online.

Azalea, whose real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, responded immediately with a few tweets.

We had so much fun.
We chose to go.

Those who complained were the ones who did not participate.

As with our party in the sky last week, the bad news came from those who couldn’t get on the plane.

It was one of my favorite events all week.

Azalea, 34, hosted the event to promote her meme coin MOTHER and her new casino, Motherland.

The rapper added that critics would “cry” if they knew who was in the building to attend his event.

Other members of the crypto community, even those who were not in attendance, came to the defense of the Australian star:

I didn’t go to the party, I bought more $MOTHER NGL, most crypto natives are scammers and con artists, I’d rather invest $$$ in someone who builds or tries something even if it doesn’t work.

Azalea Chooses Solana Over Ethereum

Azalea’s comments didn’t end there. She went a step further and slammed the ETH network. The rapper recounted an incident when a “tradfi guy” sitting next to her on a plane asked her about ETH.

Azalea recommends Solana (SOL) as a buy, citing its entry price and its better fit for retail expansion.

The rapper also reiterated his stance in another tweet, praising the Solana network for its handling of congestion. He also included a screenshot of a Google search mentioning Solana’s handling of network congestion.

One reason for his support for Solana is that his meme coin Mother Iggy is a SOL-based coin. MOTHER quickly gained popularity when it was launched on May 29, 2024.

Despite only being around for a few days, the meme coin’s price reached an all-time high of $0.2406 on June 6. This is an increase of nearly 1,400% from the all-time low of $0.004545 on May 31.

However, the meme coin has lost more than 70% of its value since its ATH. But amid all the frenzy around Iggy’s party and tweets, MOTHER is up more than 22% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.

‘Never touch a famous memecoin’

The one-sided feud between Azalea and Buterin began after Andrew Saunders, head of marketing and growth for Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain Skale, criticized celebrities’ interest in cryptocurrencies.

“I come from Hollywood and I would never touch a celebrity memecoin,” Saunders told Cointelegraph on TOKEN20249. Saunders warned owners: “You’re going to get trashed.”

Buterin also made reference to the money used by celebrities in June.

“I’m pretty unhappy with the ‘celebrity experiments of this cycle’ so far,” he said on X.com. “How do we push things in a better direction?”

So far I’m pretty unhappy about the “famous experiments of this cycle”.

“Financialization as a means to an end”, I can respect that if the end is valuable (healthcare, open source software, art, etc.). Financialization *as an end product*, 🤮
