Lawmaker warns crypto miners in Chechnya will be treated like terrorists in 2025

State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov said that crypto miners in Chechnya will be equated with terrorists after the ban on cryptocurrency mining in various regions of Russia from January 2025.

According to the news of Russian news organization Tsargrad TV, Delimkhanov stated that as of January 1, 2025, cryptocurrency mining will be considered illegal in the Chechen Republic. Therefore, anyone who engages in crypto mining in the region will be severely punished.

“We will equate them with terrorists, since their actions harm the entire society,” the MP said, adding that he quoted the words of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

Delimkhanov explained that crypto mining could cause problems with electricity stability in certain regions and affect the daily lives of citizens. He said this was due to the huge demand for electricity required to power crypto mining systems, which could disrupt the flow of electricity.

He warned that if crypto mining activities are found to be causing electricity problems in towns, villages or cities of Russia, authorities will intervene quickly and put crypto miners behind bars.

As reported by Crypto.news last October, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Evgeny Grabcha said that Bitcoin (BTC) mining would be banned in many key regions due to power outages.

The ban applies to individual crypto miners and mining companies located in regions such as Dagestan, Chechnya, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. It also extends to areas in the Irkutsk Region, Buryatia and Zabaikalsky during peak hours.

Lawmakers claim that crypto mining is causing significant electricity shortages, making it impossible to provide large power capacities until at least 2030. It is said that the ban will come into force in November and will remain in effect until March 15, 2031.

The crypto mining ban comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a crypto circulation law giving Russian lawmakers the power to ban cryptocurrency mining in certain regions. Not only that, the law also bans advertisements from companies providing crypto services, among other restrictions.
