Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, hinted at the possibility of launching X Money along with other innovations for the social media platform in 2025. Many people think that X will introduce his own cryptocurrency, given Elon Musk’s support for Dogecoin.
In a post welcoming the new year, Yaccarino talked about new innovations planned to arrive in 2025 for X users. He specifically mentioned X TV, X Money and other improvements designed to improve the user experience.
“2025 X will connect you in ways never thought possible. X TV, X Money, Grok and more. Fasten your seat belts. Happy birthday!” wrote Yaccarino in his last post on January 1.
Many traders commented on Yaccarino’s post, predicting that X would introduce its own currency.
“2025 is the year of $XMONEY and the community couldn’t be more excited!” An account called XMoney Community posts an AI-generated image of Elon Musk wearing a black X Money shirt.
In 2024, X changed the world. Now YOU ARE the media!

Musk is known as an avid supporter of the crypto community, especially Dogecoin (DOGE). Over the years, Musk has expressed favoritism towards Dogecoin. This has led many to believe that X Money could potentially enter the cryptocurrency space.
The age of social media currencies: X Money, Diem and TON
X is not the first company to try to create a social media-based currency. Telegram launched the Telegram Open Network blockchain, or TON (TON), in 2018. The project aimed to create a fast, scalable blockchain that could process millions of transactions. To fund this ambitious effort, Telegram raised approximately $1.7 billion.
Due to opposition from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, which deemed the token’s ICO as an unregistered securities offering, Telegram eventually shut down the project in May 2020. But a group of open source developers and Telegram contest winners took over the project and rebranded it. Cryptocurrency as Toncoin or simply TON.
At the time of writing, TON was trading at $5.67, up 4.2%. TON’s market capitalization is $14 billion and its 24-hour trading volume exceeds $174 million. Toncoin’s circulating supply of 2.5 billion tokens gives it a significant presence in the cryptocurrency market.
Although not all social media currencies are successful. Meta tried to do the same by launching Diem in 2019. The Diem token, originally called Libra, was marketed to the public as a blockchain-based stablecoin payment system. Like Telegram, the Diem Association has faced many obstacles from regulators who are against the token.
Eventually, Meta discontinued the Diem project in 2022, selling all its assets to Silvergate Capital Corporation for $182 million, according to the BBC.
