TL;DR
Community members are encouraged to follow official sources and avoid interactions with anyone claiming access to exclusive tokens or rewards. Fake Telegram groups and impersonators are targeting users, so the team urges caution when linking wallets or sharing personal information. Another alert
The strong Shiba Inu community (consisting of investors, advocates and developers) is often targeted by bad actors who try to scam victims and drain their funds.
Earlier this week, Shibarium Trustwatch (an X account that aims to provide security) warned users that meme coins related to SHIB SHI and TREAT are not yet available. This means that people should not interact with dubious people who claim otherwise and offer tempting opportunities.
The team advised users to follow the official X accounts of Shiba Inu, Shytoshi Kusama (the pseudonymous main developer of the meme currency), Kaal Dhairya (another prominent developer) and Treat to get more clarity on the matter.
SHI and TREAT are tokens designed to improve functionality and stability within the SHIB ecosystem. The first is an upcoming algorithmic stablecoin intended to maintain a consistent value. It will aim to counter market fluctuations by providing a reliable medium of exchange.
TREAT is a reward token that will serve several purposes. It will provide liquidity for the SHI stablecoin, replace BONE as the reward asset for ShibaSwap, and play a role within the Metaverse and some Shiba Inu-related blockchain-based games.
Last week, the team behind Shibarium Trustwatch issued a similar alert, warning the community to be very careful when dealing with people promoting services with TREAT.
“The team behind this has no involvement with the Shib ecosystem, and the token they are promoting will not be used in any official Shib project,” the warning reads.
Be careful when using Telegram
Earlier this year, the team warned about fake groups on the Telegram messaging app associated with fraudulent airdrops. The team advised Shibarmy not to link their wallets to any site that promises free cryptos:
“They will drain the contents of your wallet. Stay safe, Shibarmy, and keep your eyes open,” reads the warning.
Before that, the task force maintained that scammers pretending to be legitimate people are looking for an opportunity to hack victims using the messaging app:
“It has been brought to our attention that there are scammers operating in Telegram direct messages, targeting unsuspecting users of the Shiba Ecosystem and Shibarium Tech group. These scammers may impersonate legitimate individuals or organizations, trying to trick you for you to share personal information, financial details or even send them money.”
