A veteran Polymarket user earned nearly $1 million by correctly guessing what former President Donald Trump would and wouldn’t say during a notable X Spaces interview with Elon Musk.
The user known as “bama124” on the decentralized betting platform has built an impressive portfolio with a total position value of over $2.25 million since joining Polymarket in July alone.
Some of the markets Bama124 wagered on during the much-publicized Trump-Musk meeting were key phrases the Republican presidential candidate might use, such as “crypto,” “Bitcoin (BTC),” “Tesla,” and “censorship.” The bettor correctly predicted that the former president would not mention any of those terms.
For example, bama124’s position in the market “Will Trump say ‘crypto’ during Elon interview?” increased by 57.15%, earning them $122,645. Similarly, a bet that Trump would not say “Bitcoin” during the chat earned bama124 a 65.68% return, adding another $74,954 to their winnings.
In total, the bookmaker traded on 77 different markets, with volume exceeding $11.6 million. And despite a few losses, like a $67,000 hit on a bet that Trump would avoid the word “bumper,” bama124’s seemingly sharp instincts and strategic plays resulted in an impressive $964,402 profit.
More than 1 million X users listened to the Trump-Musk conversation, which covered a variety of topics including how Trump would secure the US border with Mexico and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The call was delayed by more than 45 minutes, with X owner Elon Musk claiming it was due to a large-scale distributed denial-of-service attack on the social media platform.
However, to the great surprise of the crypto community, nothing was said about cryptocurrency; in fact, the topic became a key issue in the campaigns of both Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The former president has previously suggested using Bitcoin to reduce the country’s $35 trillion national debt and has even accepted campaign donations in the form of the cryptocurrency.
