Rarimo secures $2.5m for ZK identity protocol with backing from Vitalik Buterin

Rarimo, a zero-knowledge identity protocol, has raised $2.5 million in funding with support from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

With $2.5 million in new funding for its interoperability protocol to centralize social identity, Rarimo now wants to accelerate the search for a decentralized digital identity model as web3 moves towards more user-owned systems.

In a November 27

“Rarimo’s identity model, which wraps existing personality proof methods with zk and builds applications on top of it, allowing users to prove key facts about who they are without fully revealing their identity, is a promising strategy to achieve both goals simultaneously. ”

Rarimo will expand the web3 identity ecosystem

The timing of the funding is crucial, as Rarimo plans to increase accessibility by migrating to Ethereum en masse; The transition is expected to occur in early 2025, but an exact date has not been confirmed.

Additionally, Rarimo will continue to develop its own custody wallet called RariMe, which is seen as a rival to Worldcoin’s identity solutions, allowing users to privately store personal data and create zero-knowledge proofs for authentication.

Founded in 2021, Rarimo aims to solve interoperability and liquidity problems in blockchain-based identity systems. Service provider Rarilabs raised $10 million in a Series A round in 2022, valuing the company at $100 million.
