Ripple co-founder donates $1m in XRP to Kamala Harris

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen made the first recorded cryptocurrency donation to Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to Eleanor Terrett, the donation of $1 million in XRP was given to Future Forward USA, the political action committee supporting Harris’ presidential candidacy.

Larsen’s contribution comes after she publicly endorsed Harris in September. According to CNBC, Larsen donated more than $1.9 million to the campaign of Harris, who is running for president in the 2024 elections.

This donation comes at a time when Ripple continues its legal battle with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The case began in 2020 and focuses on XRP’s classification as a security. Both Ripple and the SEC filed an appeal after the case was concluded in August.

Kamala Harris and crypto

Both political parties are trying to appeal to the crypto community and its financial contributions this election season. The support of crypto holders highlights the growing influence of digital assets in American politics.

Harris has been relatively quiet on crypto, but her recent statements on promoting technologies like artificial intelligence and digital assets have sparked interest among crypto supporters.

Harris’ campaign team launched the Crypto4Harris initiative in early August to engage the crypto community and counter Republican efforts to attract crypto voters. The campaign aims to develop a pro-crypto policy framework to repair Harris’ relationship with the crypto industry.
