The developer behind the Worldcoin protocol has announced that they have made their upcoming layer-2 chain, World Chain, available to developers.
According to a press release shared with CoinDesk, developers will be able to access Tools for Humanity to compile data, test, and provide feedback.
World Chain leveraged Optimism’s OP Stack, a customizable toolkit that allows developers to build their own blockchains. OP Stack, which continues to be a popular choice for building Layer-2 chains, was also used by Coinbase to build its ‘Base’ network.
“The whole team behind the blockchain is visionary, they’ve all been in this industry for a long time,” Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the nonprofit Worldcoin Foundation, which supports Worldcoin, told CoinDesk in an interview.
World Chain is expected to be available to users by the end of this summer. Bloemen did not give an exact timeline for when the mainnet will go live, but said that there are no plans to launch a testnet for users.
Additionally, the World Chain project will run Reth, a new Ethereum client software developed by venture capital firm Paradigm, in shadow mode, and Tools for Humanity plans to commit engineering resources to get Reth ready for mainnet.
According to Paradigm’s website, Reth is a relatively new client for the Ethereum network developed by Paradigm that emphasizes being “user-friendly, modular, fast, and efficient.” While Reth is primarily used for the Ethereum network, Paradigm will accommodate a wide user base, including layer-2 networks like Optimism.
