Solana meme coin Moo Deng soars over 40% in 24-hour trading

The price of a meme coin based on the pygmy hippo Moo Deng (MOODENG) that went viral in Thailand has surged by as much as 42% as Solana traders attempt to capitalize on the animal’s surprising popularity.

The Solana token was first launched on meme coin platform Pump.fun on September 10 and has since become as popular among Solana investors as its cute meme counterpart.

On September 26, MOODENG (MOODENG) rose to $0.1198, up 42.7% in the past day, according to data from cryptocurrency price tracking site CoinGecko.

Moo Deng’s market value increased from $71 million to $120 million in the last 24 hours.

On-chain analytics firm Lookonchain shared a post about a trader who struck gold with his hippo token when he traded 9.8 Solana tokens for 38.7 million Moo Deng tokens on X. Since purchasing Moo Deng, the trader has managed to make 2554x profit.

At press time, Moo Deng was emerging as the top Pump.fun meme coin in the Gecko Terminal rankings, leaving behind top contenders such as BILLY, SCF, and DADDY.

The token appears to reflect Moo Deng’s real-world popularity, which shows no signs of slowing down. Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Moo Deng’s home, has announced plans to launch a 24-hour livestream of the pygmy hippo in response to popular public demand.

Moo Deng, whose name means “jumping pig” in Thai, is a two-month-old pygmy hippo from Chonburi, Thailand. He has won the hearts of millions of internet users with his chubby cheeks and always wet appearance.

The baby hippo’s social media posts have racked up millions of views, confirming his status as an internet celebrity. Moo Deng has become the subject of countless memes that have spread online.

In an interview with the Bangkok Post, zoo director Narongwit Chodchoy said that Khao Kheow Open Zoo has seen a 50% increase in visitors thanks to the cute mammal. He predicted that the zoo will earn more than $6.13 million by the end of the year.
