Aptos Foundation has teamed up with SK Telecom to bring Tether’s USDT stablecoin to the T wallet.
Aptos Foundation is preparing to integrate Tether’s (USDT) stablecoin into SK Telecom’s web3 product called “T wallet” to expand access to stablecoins through a familiar platform used by millions of SK Telecom customers.
The integration, powered by SK Telecom’s PASS app, will allow users to access USDT on the Aptos blockchain with minimal hassle, bridging traditional finance and decentralized systems, the foundation said in a press release shared with crypto.news on Friday.
SK Telecom, the country’s largest telecom operator, sees the partnership as crucial for mainstream web3, and Oh Sehyeon, vice president of SK Telecom’s web3 division, said the firm will “expand access to digital assets with major web3 players like Tether and decentralized networks thanks to our decades of telecommunications expertise.” It reaches more people.”
The partnership leverages SK Telecom’s extensive customer base of more than 30 million, offering the T wallet as an entry point for stablecoin usage.
Tether added support for the Aptos Network in mid-August, highlighting the blockchain’s “strong developer community” as a key factor for the expansion and noting the network’s “steady increase in deployed contracts, which is indicative of active and ongoing development.”
Aside from development activity, Tether says the decision to add support for Aptos was made due to the network’s “extremely low gas fees” and that the network is “economically viable for a broader range of use cases, from microtransactions to large-scale enterprise operations.”
