Blockchain developer Mysten Labs has opened pre-orders for its SuiPlay0X1 gaming console, the first device to integrate the Sui blockchain and offer a gaming experience with web3 features.
Mysten Labs, developer of the Sui blockchain, has opened pre-orders for its new gaming console, the SuiPlay0X1, Venture Beat reported on September 2.
Running Playtron’s device-independent gaming operating system, SuiPlay0X1 features an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U CPU, AMD Ryzen 780M GPU, 16GB of DRAM memory, and a 512GB SSD with expandable storage.
The device also features a 7-inch frameless IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and supports both WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Weighing 677 grams, the SuiPlay0X1 is expected to be compared to the popular Steam Deck, another gaming console developed by Valve.
SuiPlay0X1 will be delivered in 2025
Priced at $600 plus shipping and tax, the SuiPlay0X1 can be purchased using cryptocurrencies like Sui (SUI), Ethereum (ETH), or Solana (SOL). According to the report, pre-orders will be open until all available units are sold, and the first thousand customers will receive a spirit-bound, non-fungible token that grants exclusive access, rewards, and privileges. Shipments are expected to begin in 2025.
While it is not yet known what blockchain functions the console will have, it appears that the device will support default PC games from platforms like Epic Games and Steam, and will also host Sui-supported games.
This launch by Mysten Labs is part of a larger trend of blockchain companies entering the gaming industry. For example, in September 2022, blockchain ecosystem Zilliqa also introduced its own web3-based console that combines gaming with crypto mining. However, despite these innovations, no web3 company has yet achieved mainstream adoption in the gaming industry.
