Theta Labs announced a multi-year partnership with the University of Oregon’s artificial intelligence research facility, Dystopia Laboratory.
The Theta Labs team announced the collaboration in a blog post published on October 29, noting that the initiative will be led by Dystopia’s Assistant Professor Suyash Gupta.
EdgeCloud is a hybrid cloud computing platform for AI, video, rendering and gaming. Theta announced the launch of the solution in February, while phase one of the platform went live in May.
According to the announcement, the laboratory will use Theta Network’s (THETA) EdgeCloud in training the university’s artificial intelligence model.
The University of Oregon is a leading research institution in the United States focused on distributed systems, blockchain, and federated learning. Theta Labs team, Dr. He noted that Gupta has contributed to the advancement of research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and blockchain.
Theta EdgeCloud’s technology can currently be applied to AI research in industries such as healthcare, media, finance and bioinformatics.
Through this partnership, Theta Network aims to expand decentralized artificial intelligence technology by introducing EdgeCloud into the academic sector.
Theta Labs’ collaboration with the University of Oregon demonstrates the growing adoption of decentralized cloud infrastructure in academic research. Additionally, the financing potential of cryptocurrency provides a significant incentive for ambitious academic projects.
Such partnerships allow universities and other institutions to conduct advanced research with fewer budget constraints. Partnering with projects like Theta Network allows academic institutions to compete with heavily funded commercial AI labs.
In South Korea, Theta Labs has gained traction by partnering with four of the country’s top five universities.
