US Primary Unemployment Claims Went Near 10-Month High Last Week

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits decreased last week as the U.S. labor market remained resilient.

The Labor Department reported that jobless claims fell 5,000 to 238,000 from 243,000 the previous week, a 10-month high. The four-week average number of applications increased by 5,500 to 232,750, the highest level since September.

Weekly unemployment claims, an indicator of layoffs, remained low by historical standards.

During the week of June 8, approximately 1.83 million people received unemployment benefits, an increase of 15,000 from the previous week.
