Following months of litigation over claims that the platform was being used for disinformation purposes, it has been confirmed that the use of Elon Musk’s social media platform X will be banned in Brazil.
According to local media, X had ignored government orders to remove some of his accounts. The BBC says anyone using a VPN to avoid the ban could face a fine of 50,000 reais ($8,900).
Twitter co-founder and crypto advocate Jack Dorsey directed users to Nostr and Bluesky after news that the social media platform of choice for crypto users would be banned.
One of the Bluesky developers said that after the decision was made regarding Brazil, they recorded “traffic like we have never seen before.”
