World, formerly known as Worldcoin, announced the launch of World ID Orb verifications in Brazil.
The expansion of World ID verification to the Latin American country follows initial pop-ups in 2023 as part of the project’s global tour and preview, the company announced on Nov. 12.
With the comeback, World (WLD) aims to bring digital identity and human proof technology to more people. Access for Brazilians opens on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, as noted in World’s blog post.
The project, co-founded by Sam Altman, has faced various challenges since it was first launched in July 2023. But it continued to expand globally despite legal and regulatory hurdles.
The reintroduction into Brazil follows the launch in other countries of devices recently installed in Costa Rica, Poland and Austria.
World App has now reached more than 16 million users, with more than 7.5 million unique people verified, according to the project’s website.
Its launch in Brazil enables more users to verify human identity through World ID 3.0, a version that allows anonymous verification amid growing concerns about AI-generated bots and deepfakes. A recent survey found that most people are increasingly concerned about identity theft.
In addition to verification progress, World’s expansion efforts include the launch of World Chain, a layer-2 network on top of Superchain. The World Foundation announced public access to this Ethereum-protected network in October, along with partners such as Optimism, Uniswap, Alchemy, and Dune.
The Layer-2 network has also integrated Across, a peer-to-peer interoperability protocol that enables cross-chain transactions and bridges assets such as ETH, wETH, and USDC.
